Mankatha hasn’t just proved he is ‘Emperor of Box Office’, but a daring actor for having chosen a different script that too at a critical juncture. Following ‘Mankatha’ rest of the films have been shifted across the positions.1. Mankatha: It has everything in it. Of course, though we have the credits reading as ‘A Venkat Prabhu Game’, its Ajith Kumar’s charisma that added Midas-touch to the film. But Venkat Prabhu has managed to remain under spotlights with his usual touch in narrative structures. Say for instance, the ensemble star-casts and its substantial characterizations.
2. Kanchana: It’s a rare situation where we have both the ratings from board and box office going the same. Yes, Raghava Lawrence has done a remarkable job across all the panoramas. As an actor, he has undergone a several hurdle and has managed to accomplish with it. Need an illustration? The ample evidence could be his ne plus ultra performance during climax portions.
3. Aaranya Kaandam: Let’s hope the producers at least get a good promotion done during the lanch of home videos for the film.
4. Deiva Thirumagal: Well, Vikram deserves special mention for his straining performance, but when we sense that he has imitated sean penn in ‘I am Sam’, there seems to be a little lack in invigoration of our spirits. But for others, who hadn’t watched the Hollywood flick, it’s a good movie entertaining in parts.
5. Rowthiram: Changes in the climax didn’t help for the better results. Produced at low budget cost, the producers have managed to get good collections. When it comes to content, this may be a clichéd concept, but then Jiiva’s performance is worthy of appreciations.
6. Avan Ivan: There haven’t any films that are to pull this down to lower ranking. Vishal as mentioned earlier in previous weeks. Aarya doesn’t get much to score on emotional quotients, but gets well with his hilarious character.
7. Potta Potti: Sang-froid entertainer that will keep the audiences engaged from beginning till the end, especially in the rural areas. When the expectations are little less about the film and it’s off a good quality, obvious it becomes a major success. ‘Potta Potti’ belongs to this category as it didn’t have much hype and indeed had a better quality.
8. Yuvan Yuvathi: Director GNR Kumaravelan made an impressive debut through the film ‘Ninaithale Inikkum’. But this time, it’s a little disappointment from the filmmaker. The film deserves this position only for the transfixing cinematography and stunning locales of Seychelles.
9. Puli Vesham: RK was choosing some good themes with his previous films, but this time commits a blunder by going for the wrong one. Director P. Vasu has terribly disappointed the audiences, who had great hope on his films.
The last position of the charts remains vacant as it doesn’t have a worthy flick to hold it. As mentioned earlier with couple of releases coming up this week, we can expect more changes in the ranking.
‘Deiva Thirumagal’ still remainsat No.1 position for there aren’t big competitors to beat the position. ‘Aaranya Kaandam’ is out of theatres, but still we feel it’s worthy to hold No.2.1. Deiva Thirumagal: The film’sclimax soaks our eyes and binds us emotionally to the protagonist’s character. In fact, it may have a deep impact over the audiences as they walk out of theatres. The film is sure to gain more accolades for Vikram.
2. Aaranya Kaandam: It’s beautiful to be a woman in man’s world. The female antagonist’s final word leaves us in huge applause. The director’s cut is present everywhere in the film. While you think the plot is something else, the entire story takes an absolute turn during climax. Awesome!!! Our final verdict for the film.
3. Avan Ivan: G.M. Kumar can get ready for National awards in ‘Best Supporting Actor’. The actor has done a marvellous job living to the core of perfection. A transfixing spell and he lives close to the evergreen legend Sivaji Ganesan.
4. Nootrenbadu: There have been wrong assumptions among the audiences that the protagonist’s characterization is merely an embodiment of ‘Selfishness’. Your guesses are wrong as he wants to make others happy and doesn’t want to suffer his pain.
5. Kanchana: A new competitor in National awards for ‘Best Actor Competitor’. While Vikram and Vishal are the topmost contenders, we have Raghava Lawrence joining thebandwagon and we feel he has done a fabulous job.
6. Vaanam: The film has somehow completed 100 days and it’s obvious good quality filmsare appreciated by the audiences. Hats off to the entire team.
7. Veppam: Certain characterizations in the film are good while some of them are literally ridiculous. But for a newcomer, it’s a good attempt. Newcomer Anjana could have crafted a gripping screenplay.
8. Ko: The film is going strong in many theatres even after hitting century. The commercialpackaging by K.V. Anand and his team of writers is the main reason behind the film’s success.
9. Potta Potti: Cricket based games are patently common in Indian film industry. Touted to be a comedy-caper, it has more interesting moments. Thanks to Yuvraaj for penning witty-liners.
10. Maaveeran: Brilliant performance by Ram Charan Teja and this will be one of his best films in his entire career. Too early for an actor to come up with such difficult projects, but he proves his adeptness through his ne plus ultra performances.

‘Vaanam’ remains at the same position and there are some new additions to the charts.1. Vaanam: The lives of few characters are changed and for others it remains unchanged. The climax point of the film is so heart-touching and director Krish has made it appealingly great. Bharath’s characterization remains great as Silambarasan’s and needs a special mention to have carried it off well.
2. Aanmai Thavarel: There are more reasons for the film to hold this position. Maybe on the grounds of comparison, it is not great. But it’s a daring and brilliant attempt by Kulandhai Vellappan and his team. They have done a great job taking scrutinizing efforts over each panorama.
3. Ko: The film has some unnoticeable loopholes, but they are trivialized by the well-packaged work by K.V. Anand. The filmmaker is gaining some popularity as ‘Next Shankar’. Though, Jeeva has more sequences to perform, it’s Ajmal stealing the show.
4. Azhagar Saamiyin Kuthirai: Humor is the key element as you’ll turn like children enjoying the show right from the beginning till the end. This is how a film has to be made catering to the tastes of universal audiences. Good work by Susindran.
5. Maaveeran: Would anyone believe that an actor of one film old would be capable of bringing forth a colossal performance. Ram Charan Teja walks away with these laurels and he has done a remarkable job.
6. Aadukalam: National awards shouldn’t be the limit for this film for, the film deserves more international accolades as well. Vetrimaaran’s distinctive style of narration draws us to a greater magnitude.
7. Kanden: Shanthanoo and Santhanam bring out big laughter. Though, the storyline is very much predictable, it has some enjoyable moments.
8. Yuddham Sei: Some traces of Hollywood Series – Numbers, CSI and Bones. Director Mysskin has made a film inspired loosely from these TV series, but has done it in accord to the tastes of Tamil Nadu audiences. ‘Saw’ and ‘Hostel’ aren’t an exception.
9. Nadunissi Naaigal: We have discussed a lot on this film. Hope Veera gets more chances in film industry as he is capable of performing any role.
10. Engeyum Kadhal: As we mentioned it last week, the film holds its position for the technical department. Nirav Shah’s Cinematography and Harris Jayaraj’s songs have alone pulled audiences for the show.
