The moment a girl proposes ‘I Love You’, you’ll find Kamal (Jayam Ravi) vaporizing into thin air. That’s his policy – ‘No Commitments’, ‘No Pain’, ‘Let’s enjoy the life’. But Kayalvizhi is a pure-filmy gal wanting to be a Cinderella and waits for her Mr. Prince.
‘Engeyum Kadhal’ as the title suggests the entire film is set in backdrops of Paris, often ennobled as ‘Romantic Capital of World’. You’ll find millions of lovers flocking around the city filled with some beliefs over banking their hopes on God and Goddess of Love. Produced by AGS Entertainments, the film is marketed and released by Sun Pictures. The film has Jayam Ravi and Hansika Motwani in lead roles with Prabhu Deva experimenting with the genre of ‘Romance’ for the first time.
The songs by Harris and the sizzling teasers by Sun Pictures was worthy enough to keep us awaited on the film, thereby raising our expectations. But then, as you walk out of theatres, it’s gonna be a Déjà vu feeling for most of us.
12 months of hard work and a month meant for gratifying his pleasures, things work for Kamal (Jeyam Ravi) this way while for a beautiful cello player Kayalvizhi (Hansika), she believes ‘Love’ is a pure emotion and it’s something divine. Poles apart, isn’t? But the filmmaker Prabhu Deva sticks to ‘SJ Suryah’ formula of making it clear that it’s a film about these chalk-n-cheese personalities falling in love with each other.
But how it’s gonna be? Find you if you want to over the screens.
Jeyam Ravi doesn’t emote to the demanded levels. Well, we ought to accept that the tall fair actor looks pretty, but could have paid more attention for a perfect shot. Hansika Motwani exhibits a below average performance while her looks are stunning. Thanks to make-up artist, cinematographer Nirav Shah and Prabhu Deva for taking special interests. Raju Sundaram tries tickling our funny bones, specifically for the ones belonging to ‘C’ centres. Suman as a dad-detective makes an impressive performance.
Nirav Shah’s cinematography and picturing of songs are done on par with excellence. Watch out for the songs ‘Nangai’, ‘Engeyum Kadhal’ and ‘Dhimu Dhimu’ that have best choreography and cinematography. The screenplay doesn’t work at best as most of the moments happen to be sluggish. There are no conflicts, except the ‘Ego’ factor we experience in almost all the films.
On the whole, ‘Engeyum Kadhal’ leaves us out with a mere disappointment as we walk out of theatres.
