Actor Jai, Anjali, Sharwanand, Ananya starrer Engeyum Eppodhum is directed by Saravanan and produced by AR Murugadoss and Fox Studios. The music is scored by debutant C.Sathya. The album has 5 tracks with a fair share of new comers and experienced singers. With the expectation weighing much on the first-time composer, lets see how he has delivered.

Govinda . . .
Singers: Vijay Prakash, Ranina, Bonnie
Lyrics:
 Na. Muthukumar
The album opens up with this lighthearted peppy number 'Govinda'.  Sathya gives a mixture of music in this song, right from saxophone , electric guitars to Chinese mumblings and electric voice-overs. Vijay Prakash's mischievous tones are playful and so are the voiceover of array of singers Ranina and Bonnie. Na. Muthukumar's urbane-cool wordings go well with the composition. The first-time music director delivers with this impressive song
Sotta Sotta . . .
Singers: Chinmayee, Sathya
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

Chinmayee is absolutely delightful in this melody and the composer deserves kudos for making this a totally enchanting fare. Use of tabla and electrical flute are noteworthy and the orchestration is simply great. A lot of work has been done to make this zestier and something that lovers can relate to due to the added tempo and beats. The lyrics are filmy and just right for the romantic number.

Maasamaa . . .
Singers: Sathya
Lyrics: Saravanan

Both the directors (Sathya and Saravanan) join hands to produce this snooze fest.. The song has desi beats and has more of the rustic flavor with simple instrumentation. It should not come as surprise for music directors to be singing in their own albums and Sathya is no exception to that. Sathya's perfect rendering is the highlight of the track which could be used in some dramatic portions of the movie. It might be one of the songs which take a trip down the hero's memory lane with some formidable street-dancing group.

Un Perai Theriyathu . . .
Singers: Madhushree
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

Again the composer has tried to produce an inspirational song from gentle guitar plucks to introducing Tamil rap and English tracks to compose a female-solo track. Madhushree, who has delivered some chartbusting as well memorable songs like 'Mayiliragae', 'Sanda kozhi' and 'Marudhani' has tried to make a comeback with this song. The humming and to some extent the beats give a 'heard before'  feel. Commercially speaking of the track, this well penned and rendered track lacks inspiration, but is definitely note-worthy.

Uyir Arunthathae . . .
Singers: Sayanora Philip
Lyrics: Saravanan

It's a brief 2 minute song that will naturally be used as a background score, especially during the mystical, tragic moments of the film. Sayanora Philip's immaculately streamlined voice echoes out the pathos, hardships, loss and death in her well-tempered vocal flows. The musical arrangements are befitting to make a deep impact to the listeners. The song really has that lingering quality that stays back even after the song comes to an end.

Expectations did arise a little bit, with the debutant music director Sathya and 'Ghajni' Murugadoss - Saravanan combination. They have come up with some simple music and variety of musical arrangements. The music is cool, but the impact is moderate. "Sotta Sotta" and "Govinda" certainly top the album. Considering his first-time venture, the music-director deserves a commendable mention for his efforts and proves that he could be counted upon in the near future.
Verdict: "Engayum Eppothum" tries to make an impact "Eppavavuthum", with much potential for "Eppothum"
